The National Interracial Conference of 1928 gathered researchers of race relations from around the country to study and discuss issues relating to racial inequity in America. Sociologist Charles Spurgeon Johnson compiled and published research results from the conference in this 1930 volume. The books is broken into two parts and address topics including migration, healthcare, education, the working class, unionization, and incarceration. Part I introduces the different topics and the problems within each. Part II contains essays by experts such as biologist Raymond Pearl, sociologist Thorsten Sellin, and sociologist and activist W.E.B. Du Bois which elaborate on the findings of their research and propose discussion questions to help facilitate productive thought and conversation on each topic. Charles Spurgeon Johnson was an American sociologist and first Black president of Fisk University. He is remembered for his tireless civil rights activism and his willingness to work with white liberals in order to achieve tangible, pragmatic change. Some light markings and ex-libris bookplate on endpaper. Binding sun-faded at spine with several chips and light wear to top and bottom of spine. Overall good to very good condition. A volume of research and discussion-provoking essays on the state of racial inequality in the early 20th century.
