Black Girl (1972) Film original Archive. The film explores issues and experiences of black womanhood in the 1970s, Davis also explores the women's liberation movement that occurred contemporaneous to the Black Power movement through the characters' stories, especially that of Mama Rosie, a single black mother struggling to support her family while refusing to allow her ex-husband to save her. The Archive has 8 items, including 7 Lobby cards and one Press Photo Peggy Pettitt the star in title Role of "Black Girl" - The 7 Lobby cards are color images from the movie, and each one measures 11"x14" with the movie title on the white margin below the image. The movie deals with a mother dealing with feelings of inadequacy who takes in a troubled girl in order to give her a better life, but instead exposes the teen to mistreatment by her own jealous daughters. Variety quoted their review, which called it "the best study of Negro family life since Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun" In very good condition.Item #19259
