Broadside

[Black Panthers][African American][Prison] Large original movie poster for Brothers (1977). Measuring 40" x 60". Brothers is based on the friendship between Angela Davis and prison inmate George Jackson. Political activist Angela Davis took up Jackson's cause and became romantically involved with him. The relationship resulted in a courtroom shootout that took the lives of two prisoners, Jackson's younger brother, and a judge. The film, starring Bernie Casey and distributed by Warner Bros, depicts the brutal prison conditions for African Americans. Tagline on poster reads: "He was a nobody; a black man in a white man's prison." George Jackson's writings about prison conditions for African Americans created awareness and spread important information about the severity of treatment. Pinholes on all corner margins and light stain on bottom white margin. In very good condition overall.
