Photograph
[World War II, Pacific Theater] Archive of 11 silver gelatin photos of U.S military in the China Burma India Theater during World War II including photos of local landscapes and civilians. Photos measure 5 x 7 inches. The China Burma India Theater was the designation given by U.S military during World War II to all Southeast Asian or Indian theaters. Japanese policy in China had long been a source of international tension, and in 1941 the United States began its official support of China when President Roosevelt decreed a defense of China to be a defense of America. Multiple images show U.S soldiers posing in uniform on base in Burma. Multiple images show local women washing clothes in a river with a small village visible behind them. Between 1943 and 1944, allied forces operating in Burma destroyed or damaged more than 700 Japanese aircraft. Slight bumping to corners of several photos does not affect images. Overall very good condition.Item #18444
