Early Motorcycle Racing Photo Archive, 1930s-40s. Archive of seven silver gelatin photos of motorcycle racing from the 1930s and 40s. Measurements range from 2" x 3" to 5.5." x 3.5". These photographs show motorcycle races both on tracks and open road. Competitors have race numbers displayed on their bikes. Included in this archive are two real photo postcards dating from 1938 showing the Golden Helmet of Pardubice . The Golden Helmet is a prestigious international competition and the oldest motorcycle speedway race in Europe. These photos show the last Golden Helmet before the German occupation of Czechoslovakia from 1939-1945, during which the competition was not held. Another image shows three men crowded around a bike's back tire in the snow, seemingly to repair or replace a part mid-race. Another shows six racers going down a coastal road with one in a clear lead. Caption on verso reads "Daytona Beach Races." Also included in this archive is a clipped newspaper article in German from 1930 recapping a race. Overall very good condition. An interesting collection of images from the early days of motorcycle racing, including the prestigious Golden Helmet of Pardubice race.Item #20584
