The photograph shows 4 African American civil right activist dressed in suits, standing before an automobile parked in front of a Civil War monument at a military park in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Self-taught African American photographer Johnnie Crump documented the lives of black subjects in Mississippi under segregation during the 1940s-1950s. Crump, who was friends with Medgar Evers, was actively involved in the Civil Rights movement and a member of the NAACP along with his wife Clara. The photo has very light corner wear, light spotting overall in very good condition.
