Archive
[Women's Education] [Nursing] Photo album containing 148 original photos, the majority of which are of nurses in uniform. Ca. 1910. Measures 5.5" x 8," 76 pages. One photo identifies Mt. Helena in Montana. This album offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of young educated women in the early twentieth century. There are many group shots included, and it is clear that these nurses were a close-knit group. Many group shots in their turn of the century nursing outfits. In several images, they take a beach vacation, posing on the sand in modest swimwear. In many pictures, they share an embrace and lean on each others' shoulders. 7 of the pictures are captioned with white inscriptions: "Away from home," "Two flirts," etc. In one particularly interesting photo, a nurse points a pistol at a man, who cowers behind a wood post. Several of the pictures are taken in front of a sign that reads, "O.S. Ross Manufacturer of Show Cases and Store Fixtures." The album's cloth covers and pages are securely attached, bound with string. There are a couple of missing photographs. Overall in very good condition.Item #18953
