The United States sent the first qualified medical woman to 1880, and for the next sixty years, many women physicians from America, England and other countries have gone to India as missionaries. The Association of Medical Women in India grew to 281 members by 1930, and there were four women's medical schools where 351 students were studying for the subassistant surgeon's diploma. This book focuses on the women from 1880 to 1929 who contributed to improving the health of women in India. It follows several famous figures from the medical movement of the day including Pechey Phipson, E. Bielby, CFlara Swain, A. Jaganadhan and R. Rukhmabai. The book also includes several illustrations of the women, where they worked, and additional medical charts. Also included is a map of India from 1930 located as a pull-out at the end of the book. Textblock is tight with only minor wear from shelf use. Overall, in very good condition.
