Two Volume Biography of Distinguished Native Americans
Book
[Native American] Thatcher, B.B. New York: J & J Harper, 1834. Indian Biography, Or An Historical Account Of Those Individuals Who Have Been Distinguished Among The North American Natives As Orators, Warriors, Statesmen And Other Remarkable Characters. Thatcher was a Boston abolitionist who also wrote a biography of Phyllis Wheatley, the first published African-American poet. This work is interesting in the way it lionizes the Natives, in contrast to the phenomenon of aggressive westward expansion sanctioned by the contemporaneous Jackson administration. This two volume copy has been rebound with neat and tight red boards. Some interior spotting and chipping on some pages. Overall in very good condition.Item #17290
