Mathematician Isador Sheffer Writes to a Colleague Regarding Polynomials

Prominent American Mathematician of the 20th century. In 1939, Sheffer published the influential work "Some Properties of Polynomial Sets of Type Zero." The "Sheffer Sequence" is named for him. Autograph letter signed "Isador Mitchell Sheffer". 1 page. 8-1/2"x11". July 1, 1948. No place. To Dr. WIlliam N. Huff, fellow mathematician who published in 1947 "The Type of Polynomials generated by f(xt) ?(t). Sheffer writes in his hand, "I have received your reprint and your kind letter, for which many thanks. I hope you will continue to find interesting results concerning the polynomials treated in your thesis." The letter has 3 original mailing folds, and is in fine condition.Item #14269
