Patricia Highsmith's The Cry of the Owl, First Edition, 1962

First Edition

HIGHSMITH, Patricia. The Cry of the Owl. New York: Harper & Row. Stated first edition, 1962. Original illustrated brown dust jacket with yellow text. Brown board with gilt font on the spine. Mylar covering. 8vo. 272 pages. Highsmith was predominantly known for writing psychological thrillers with many of her books being adapted into renown films. This psychological thriller was her 8th of 22 novels, and while there are no apparent queer themes in this novel, many of the characters are based on her own life and relationships. Highsmith has admitted to most of her personal relationships being with women as she also authored the lesbian love story The Price of Salt which was published under the pseudonym Claire Morgan. The Cry of the Owl is dedicated only to "D.W.", an apparent reference to Daisy Winston, Highsmith's former lover and neighbor in New Hope, Pennsylvania in which the book is set. Priceclipped. Edges of dustjacket has some wear, overall very good condition.
