Female Impersonator Jim Bailey as Barbra Streisand, Photo Archive
Photograph
[Drag] [LGBTQ] Photo Archive of 5 black and white silver gelatin photographs of film actor and female impersonator, Jim Bailey, dressed as Barbra Streisand in the 1990s. Jim Bailey's fame began in the 1960s when he began imitation performances of popular singers such as Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, and Peggy Lee. His popularity skyrocketed as he began performing in Las Vegas, Carnegie Hall, and the Palladium Theater in London. Bailey also performed for the British royal family twice and for four United States presidents. His popularity allowed him to star on multiple television shows and perform at the opening for the 1984 Winter Olympics. Many of the photographs are taken in a studio emulating famous photographs of Streisand, some in front of microphones, and in her varying hairstyles and dress. Bailey is seen in lavish gowns, full face makeup, jewelry, and acrylic nails. Photos have his name printed on the margins, some with dates of 1991 and 1993. Bailey's widespread popularity helped spread a positive lightness on queer identity and drag as a form of gender expression. Overall very good condition.Item #20785
