[Harley Davidson Motorcycle] Southern Eagles Motorcycle Club photograph archive documenting Harley Davidson riders connected with the Cable dealership in Winston Salem, North Carolina between 1958 and 1968. The photographs illustrate the growth of organized motorcycle clubs, dealership sponsorship, and competitive racing culture during the expansion of recreational motorcycling in postwar America.Archive of thirty eight black and white silver gelatin photographs measuring approximately 3 x 3 inches to 8 x 10.25 inches. Many photographs identify riders by name and include captions identifying locations or events. Subjects include club competitions, motorcycle races, dealership gatherings, and long distance riding trips. Several images show dealership owner Odell Cable presenting awards and greeting riders. Other photographs depict motorcycles displayed at sportsman exhibitions and events promoting Harley Davidson models including the XLCH Sportster and the Topper scooter.
Images also show riders traveling in varied conditions including snow covered city streets and long distance rallies such as Daytona Beach gatherings. One photograph depicts Cable riding a touring motorcycle with sidecar beneath Spanish moss trees in Daytona. Light wear and prior album mounting traces. Very good condition. A photographic archive documenting the social world of American motorcycle clubs during the mid twentieth century.
