[Lesbian Film] Landmark Lesbian film Personal Best, Archive of 5 original Lobby Cards and one vintage original silver gelatin photo used as a lobby card in movie theaters. Warner Bros., 1981. Lobby Cards measure 11" x 14" in matte color. Original photo measure 8" x 9" in glossy black and white. Personal Best tells the story of two women's attempt to make it into the Olympics, and the love story that spawns between them. Written and directed by Robert Towne, the film was praised by reviewers at the time like Roger Ebert for its honest portrayal of a lesbian relationship: "The characters in “Personal Best” seem to be free to have real feelings. It is filled with the uncertainties, risks, cares, and rewards of real life, and it considers its characters' hearts and minds, and sees their sexuality as an expression of their true feelings for each other." New Yorker Critic Pauline Kael also commented on the authenticity of the relationship: "There has probably never been a growing-up story presented on the screen so freely and uninhibitedly." Despite its poor performance at the box office, American Film Institute named the film one of the Top 10 sports films of all time in 2008. Archive feature several photos of Muriel Hemingway and Patrice Donnelly together, as well as several scenes of races, training and other emotionally tender moments. Lobby Cards feature title of the film, Geffen Company Logo, Warner Bros. copyright and other production information in the lower white margin. Original photo also has a caption of the white margin noting the actresses and Warner Bros. copyright. Archive is in very good condition.
