When the United States Army was reorganized in 1821, the Ordnance and Artillery Departments were merged with Colonel Comford promoted to full colonel and attached to the artillery. In 1823 the United States was fighting the Arikara Indians in the first plains Indian War and asserting control of the Western Hemisphere against further colonization by European powers. This text breaks down cost and quantity of artillery required by Bomford to support military efforts in the American west. The Arikara War of 1823 is widely recognized as the first military conflict between the United States and a Native American nation on the Great Plains. This conflict specifically occurred in the Upper Missouri River region, in what is present-day South Dakota. Toning around edges does not affect text. Front page detached. Text is clean.
