[Women's Education] [Women History] Teaching Certificate issued by Spain's Ministry of Development. 1888. Measures 17.5 x 12 inches. Text surrounded by decorative engraving of cartouches wrapped in vines with the royal crown above and a world globe below. The Ministry of Development served the broad purpose of public works, education and charity including the National Geographic Institute indicated by the globe that appears on the certificate. The document reads in part, "Therefore of order of the king, the queen of the kingdom, issues this title so that I can freely exercise the profession of teacher in the terms provided by the laws and regulations in force." Additional script written in hand on verso. Education played a vital role in offering one of the first employment options for educated women. Light toning and wear to edges does not affect image or text. Creased where folded. Overall very good condition.Item #18296
