Drury College Yearbook, 1908

Non-Paper Memorabilia

Drury College Yearbook, “Sou’wester 1908.” Springfield, Missouri. Measures 10.75” X 8” inches. Gray boards with red ¼ with silver text and red pressed illustration of what appears to be a cannon. Yearbook includes class and faculty rosters and photos, lists of organizations and committees, student literature, illustrations and songs. The text charmingly encapsulates the spirit of a lively student body. A playful cafeteria menu features "Canned Cow" and Stewed Pie Plant." Student cartoons show student cadets on an evening stroll, one saying "If mother could only see me now!" and another, walking with rifle across one shoulder replies, "I don't want to go to war anyhow." A page titled "Correspondence Column" includes jokes, one of them reading "Editor-How would you go about milking a kicky cow? -Anonymous Anonymous-I wouldn't go about it. I would let my wife do the milking." Another page forecasts "One of Drury's old stars has set, but his light still shines about the College...Observer Windjammer can see nothing but brightness ahead. Eclipses impossible." A souvenir for students to remember their time together. Texblock is detached from cover and loose. Overall fair condition.
