African American photo archive of vernacular portraits of girls graduating circa 1930s-40s. The archive consist of 9 black and white silver gelatin prints. Original vernacular photographs size range from 2.25" x 2" to 4.5" x 2.75" inches. This archive records educational attainment by Black girls at a time when they were still highly disadvantaged. All photos depict the graduating girls in cap and gown and some holding their diplomas. One photo shows approximately 12 girls in a graduating class. A couple photos have sepia toning. Two photos have photographers stamps on verso locating them in Denison, Texas and El Dorado, Arkansas. It is possible that the archive came from a teacher who taught these students. One photo has a note written on verso in blue ink. In very good condition overall.Item #17843
