Suffragists Protest Original Photo c. 1900
Photograph
Woman suffrage activists protest Original photograph mounted on board. Circa 1900. Black and white Image: 6 x 8 1/4 in. Three women pose on the beach in the signature all white dress of suffrage advocates. Two sit in a pony-drawn carriage and hold a sign that reads “17 and 6 make 23. Give us the Seashore”. They notably are the only women on the beach, although several other ladies stand with parasols on a balcony in the background. The carriage is surrounded by male beachgoers in period suits and swimming outfits; the three suffragists are dressed in full-length white dresses, thereby identifying themselves as progressive women’s rights advocates. Small loss to top right edges and bottom left corner. Pencil annotation on back. Very good condition.Item #16575
