Periodical
[Women Suffrage] Life. Vol. 62, No. 1607. August 14, 1913. Life Publishing Company, 1913. Pages 255-290.11 x 9 in. This popular weekly magazine is filled with articles, letters, and cartoons relating to life in the early 20th century, including several references to women’s suffrage advocates. Page 276 shows a cartoon of a militant British suffrage advocate. A “Blasted Britisher” says “My Word! We men are not all angels, you know.” The suffragette, with a bomb hidden behind her back, replies that they soon will be. An image titled “The Call of the Wild,” (p. 280) shows a woman walking away from a new husband to join a parade of suffrage advocates, and page 282 shows “The Militant's Husband: How Restful the Water Looks” with a domineering woman about to push her husband off of a pier. Some wear to binding and expected toning, but crisp pages. Good condition. An interesting piece of history capturing some of the different popular ideas and opinions about women’s rights.Item #16322
