Eleanor Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed When she was US Delegate to the UN

TLS : Typed Letter Signed

Eleanor Roosevelt. Remarkable first lady as well known for her work as a social reformer in her time in the White House and first female UN delegate. On her personal letterhead, which lists the Park Sheraton Hotel as her address, she writes a cryptic note to a Mr. Leiser: "Your letter did not reach me in time to send you the material you asked for by the 22nd..." Typed letter with bold signature in deep blue fountainhead ink. May 22, 1952. New York, New York. 1 page.

This was written when Roosevelt was working as a delegate in the U.N. and serving as chairperson of the U.N.'s Commission of Human Rights, so the mysterious content is likely related to her official duties. "I have asked the labor Department to send you the information," she promises. Eleanor Roosevelt remains one of the most accomplished first ladies in United States history, and the energetic, brisk tone to this letter belies just how many responsibilities she accepted on behalf of the vulnerable, not just in America but also abroad. "I appreciate your kind words," she ends on a warm note, before concluding "Very sincerely yours, Eleanor Roosevelt". Dark brown dot in upper right corner; in near fine condition.
