William Lloyd Garrison Speech on Women’s Suffrage, 1896

Pamphlet

"Woman Suffrage Leaflet." Published bi-monthly at the Office of the Woman’s Journal, Boston, Mass. Vol. V, No. 6. November, 1896. 8.5 x 6 in. Original paper wrappers, 4 page folded pamphlet. The pamphlet reproduced a speech given by activist William Lloyd Garrison at a meeting of the Rhode Island Women Suffrage Association on October 15, 1896. The speech reflects on the history of women’s suffrage movements in America, and looks toward the new century as a time for progress. The Woman’s Journal was founded in 1870 by Lucy Stone, one of the preeminent women of the 19th century women's movement. Very good condition with small losses in bottom left corner and along bottom right edge. Pamphlet is clean and crisp with minimal toning. An interesting speech documenting the progress in women’s rights and calling for universal suffrage. At the time that this description is being written, two copies are recorded in American institutions. OCLC search results are at best an estimate and can vary over time.
