Perry, Adele D. Typed letter signed, 2 September 1915, documenting the practical coordination behind the Women’s Political Union of New Jersey during the state’s suffrage campaign. Addressed to Eleonore Raoul of Atlanta, Georgia, the letter concerns arrangements for Raoul’s forthcoming visit and records the movement’s reliance on interstate speakers, campaign travel, and newspaper publicity. Perry’s references to a colleague “on a campaign tour across the state” and to the Newark Evening News as the state’s leading daily paper show how the Union coordinated appearances and press attention during the months leading to New Jersey’s 1915 suffrage referendum.

Typed on elaborate cream stationery of the Women’s Political Union of New Jersey, with the organization’s officers and advisory board members printed on the sheet, and signed in full by Perry. Writing to Eleonore Raoul, Perry discusses preparations for Raoul’s visit and notes that “Mrs. Winkle has been out of town for the last few days, on a campaign tour across the state.” She also directs Raoul’s attention to publicity, writing, “The best daily newspaper in our state is ‘The Newark Evening News.’” The letter therefore preserves specific evidence of scheduling, travel, and press strategy within a state suffrage campaign.

The correspondence dates only weeks before New Jersey voters considered a state constitutional amendment for woman suffrage in October 1915. Its printed organizational letterhead identifies the Union’s leadership structure, while the text records how activists brought outside participants into local campaigning and cultivated newspaper coverage. Creased once horizontally and twice vertically, with two punch holes along the top edge not affecting the text and one very small stain near the Women’s Political Union of New Jersey symbol in the upper left corner; very good condition. The letter documents the day to day campaign work connecting women suffrage organizers in New Jersey with activists beyond the state.
