Rather than focusing solely on vehicle damage, the photographs record the cascading consequences that follow when transportation infrastructure breaks down: cargo scattered across the roadway, traffic halted, emergency responders mobilized, bystanders converging on the scene, and a freight shipment abruptly removed from the commercial network. Boxes marked “Xerox” litter the pavement and shoulder, transforming the highway into a temporary landscape of disorder where goods intended for circulation instead become debris.

Photo archive of 17 silver gelatin photographs, each measuring approximately 5" x 3.5", circa 1960s–1970s. An overturned trailer lies across the roadway with its undercarriage exposed, while a crushed tractor cab, damaged tanker truck, twisted metal, and scattered cargo illustrate the scale of the collision. Cases of Xerox products, loose papers, cartons, and packing materials spill across both traffic lanes and onto the roadside embankment. Police officers, motorists, local residents, and photographers move through the scene as recovery efforts begin, documenting the intersection of transportation, public safety, and community response. Captured from multiple vantage points and distances, the photographs preserve a temporary moment when a regional freight route ceased functioning as intended and became an improvised site of cleanup, observation, and logistical disruption. Light handling wear and some uneven exposure; overall in good condition.
