[Film] [Feminism] Agnes Varda's "Cleo From 5 to 7" (1962). Archive of 2 original vintage silver gelatin photographs used as lobby cards. Both photos are 8" x 10". Glossy and in black and white. Cleo From 5 to 7 is the first full-length feature French New Wave drama written and directed by Agnes Varda starring Corinne Marchand and featuring cameos from Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina. The film follows a young singer, "Cléo", from 5 p.m. on June 21, until 6:30 p.m. as she waits to hear the results of a medical test that will possibly confirm a diagnosis of cancer. Varda explores the tension between objective & subjective time where 30 minutes can feel like an eternity, or hours can slip by without notice. Cleo wants to live life fuller, and realizes she hasn’t really felt love before, and tries to find it. The film marked Varda as the premiere female director of her generation and examined the female identity as a function of how women see and are seen by the world, a major moment for feminist film. Both photos feature iconic images of Marchand as Cleo in the film, including in her ruffled white dress. One photo has the title of the film, the stars, and "Written and Directed by Agnes Varda" with "A Zenith International Release" in the lower white margin. The other photo has an extended caption on the verso reading: "From 5 to 7 marks the time that Cleo's approach to love and to life are forever altered." Along with a list of the films stars. One photo has small pinholes in corners that do not affect the image. Overall, both photos are in very good condition.Item #19828
