The Bicycle Thief. Archive of 2 Original Vintage photos used as a Lobby Card in movie theaters. Mayer and Burstyn, 1948. Both measures 8" x 10". Glossy, black and white. The Bicycle Thief is an Italian drama directed by Vittorio De Sica. It follows Lamberto Maggiorani as a poor father searching in post-World War II Rome for his stolen bicycle, without which he will lose his job and family. The film was given an Academy Honorary Award in 1950, and, just four years after its release, was deemed the greatest film of all time by the magazine Sight & Sound's poll of filmmakers and critics. Both stars Maggiorani and Lianella Carell are featured in both images during climactic scenes in the movie. One has a caption in the white margin that includes the title and production company, stating "Property of National Screen Service Corp." The verso has writing: "Music Box," referring to the Theatre in Chicago where the film played in 1950. Both in very good condition.Item #19633
