Sidney Poitier:The Mark of the Hawk Original Lobby Card Archive. Each Lobby Card 14" x 12.5." Universal Pictures 1957. This is one Poitier's earliest movies, predating his role in The Defiant Ones (1958.) and only 2 years out of high school. This Lot of 3 lobby cards, one from U.S release and 2 from the Mexican release of the film starring Eartha Kitt and Sidney Poitier. The Mark of the Hawk features Poitier as Obam, brother of an indigenous resistance leader, who finds himself caught in the middle of hostility between British colonists and African villagers who want to reclaim their land. The film was partially shot on-location in Nigeria. During the American Civil Rights movement, Sidney Poitier was described as the 'sole representative' of Black Americans in mainstream cinema during the 1950s and 60s. Following Poitier's death in 2022, President Barack Obama said the actor had "[advanced] the nation's dialogue on race and respect" and "opened doors for a generation of actors." These 3 lobby cards each bear different stills from the movie; they are profusely illustrated. Some small pin holes from where these cards were initially hung in movie theaters.
