[Slavery and Abolition]. Anti-Slavery Bugle. Volume 4, No. 5. Salem, Ohio. September 22, 1848. 4 pages. 21" x 16." Abolitionist newspaper distributed in Salem, a station on the Underground Railroad. Featured in this particular issue are articles pertaining to the upcoming presidential election. Many of the writings are discuss the candidates' stances on slavery, especially that of Zachary Taylor. Another article covers an ongoing case, Commonwealth of KY vs. Turner Roberts, in which a free man of color was arrested for migrating to a slave state. Another discusses a recent pro-slavery mob in Harwich, Massachussetts. The newspaper's official slogan, "No Union with Slaveholders," is featured prominently on the front page. The newspaper advocates that "all friends of the Anti-Slavery Society will do what they can to aid in the support of this paper." Some discoloration and creasing; some separation at folds.
