Measures 8.5" x 5.5". Handbill is advertising a Harlem fundraiser event featuring longtime congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. as well as soul music, a dance contest, and cash prizes put on by the Alfred E. Isaac club for Democrats. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. was an American Baptist pastor and the first African American to be elected to Congress from any state in the Northeast, representing the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. Powell remained in office for nearly three decades and used his platform to advocate for civil rights, social issues, and US support for nations gaining independence from colonial rule. Notes in ink on verso and ink scribbled on front cover. Creased from folding, not affecting text. Overall very good condition.Item #18029
