Ralph Ellison- Handwritten New Year’s Card from Ralph and Fanny Ellison. Written in the hand of Fanny Ellison. Handmade silver card with original 3 x 3” color photograph of a flower sculpture. 6.5 x 5 in. No date, c. early 1960s. Note on inside handwritten in blue ink. “Greetings & Best Wishes for the New Year. Ralph & Fanny Ellison”. Ralph and Fanny Ellison were first set up by fellow Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes, after Fanny said that she wanted to meet a man who was interested in books. Fanny Ellison helped her famous husband with his most celebrated work Invisible Man, published in 1952. She typed the manuscript Ellison wrote longhand and provided editorial assistance, sometimes making written queries about various details in the work. Paper is thinner than typical greeting cards, and shows some light handling dents. In very good condition.Item #17148
