This fine, original copper-plate engraved antique map a plans of parts of the Great Wall of China was published in Antoine François Prevosts Histoire Generale des Voyages written by Prevost & other authors between 1746-1789. Sheet Size: 24 x 19 cm. With the text: "Plan de Long-men-hien. Pres de la Grande muraille, dependant de Suen hoa fu: Plan d une Partie de la Grande Muraille Du coste de Yung-ping-fu ASoutenue par Diverses Places de Guerre ". This shows the Great wall in Hebei, a province of Northern China. A Han Dynasty province (zhou) that included what is now southern Hebei.
The earliest parts of Histoire Generale des Voyages mostly deal with the Far East and South-East Asia, providing a general history of their regions, kingdoms, customs, culture, costumes, natural phenomena and religious beliefs. Much of Prévosts information is derived from the reports of Jesuit missionaries, Portuguese merchants, and famous explorers, from Marco Polo to Sir Francis Drake. Uneven left border. Not affecting maps. Otherwise very good condition.
