Flight 714, 1968, is the twenty-second volume of The Adventures of Tintin and the first English-language edition of Hergé’s late Tintin adventure involving aircraft hijacking, a remote volcanic island, and extraterrestrial contact. Published in Britain by Methuen under the abbreviated title Flight 714, rather than the fuller Flight 714 to Sydney used for later English editions, this edition records the work’s original presentation to British readers. The story follows Tintin, Captain Haddock, and Professor Calculus after a chance encounter with millionaire Laszlo Carreidas diverts their journey to Sydney and leads to their abduction by Rastapopoulos.

The original Methuen title, Flight 714, distinguishes this edition from subsequent English-language issues carrying the expanded title Flight 714 to Sydney, corresponding more closely to the original French Vol 714 pour Sydney.

Illustrated boards show minor general wear and light wear at the corners, with a small area of damage to one corner of the rear board. Spine has been repaired with red tape. Endpapers have scuffing and small tears near the gutter. Pages remain clean throughout with minor age-toning and no inscriptions or scribbling; overall very good condition. First English edition retaining Methuen’s original short title for Hergé’s twenty-second Tintin adventure.
