Lone Girl Flyer by Jack O'Hagan Sheet Music Tribute to pioneering female pilot Amy Johnson
Ephemera and pamphlets
Songbook for “The Lone Girl Flyer”. Words and music by Jack O’Hagan. Melbourne: Allan’s Music Publishers, 1930. 7 pages. Heavy losses to back cover upper right corner, and tape repairs at binding. Surface loss to upper left corner of front cover. Song is dedicated to Amy Johnson, a pioneering woman aviator who was the first female pilot to fly solo from London to Australia in 1930. The front includes an oval illustrated portrait of Johnson, a drawing of her plane, and her flight route with stops along Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Songbook includes music for three additional songs, “Indiana Skies,” “Rose of Flanders,” and “That’s Her Now!” Johnson went on to fly for Britain in WWII, rising to First Officer, but tragically died during a transport mission. Light thumb-soiling and handling dents. Good condition. An interesting piece of musical history that celebrates an important, early woman pilot.Item #15930
