First edition of this scarce, self-published idiosyncratic book, printed at a local job press in Knoxville. To date, only three copies have been located in American institutions. Vineyard's brief yet compelling introduction to Woman Neglected in Education illustrates the altruistic impetus behind this work: "Prompted by a desire to aid in ameliorating the condition of the youth, and in gaining for woman the accomplishments requisite to fit her for the sphere designed for her in the economy of the world, [Vineyard] speaks frankly of the custom of neglecting the culture of woman, in its various phases, presents what he considers the prime cause of this neglect, and gives its effects…"
