[Film] The Bicycle Thief. Archive of 3 Original Silver Gelatin Vintage photos. All measures 8" x 10". Glossy, black and white. The Bicycle Thief is an Italian drama directed by Vittorio De Sica. It follows Lamberto Maggiorani as a poor father searching in post-World War II Rome for his stolen bicycle, without which he will lose his job and family. The film was given an Academy Honorary Award in 1950, and, just four years after its release, was deemed the greatest film of all time by the magazine Sight & Sound's poll of filmmakers and critics. The films star Lamberto Maggiorani is featured in both images. Two are still images from the film. The other is a press photo of Maggiorani working as a stone and brick mason in a promotional shot for the film. A caption on the verso reads "Given sufficient time, even a prosperous cinema star will come to the point of accepting any kind of menial job when he and his family are without food. Maggiorani accepted odd jobs as stone and brick mason on a day to day basis." Additional stamps from "International News Photos" are on verso with the date "Feb. 9, 1950." Archive in very good condition.
