Pamphlet
[Mexican-American] Our Badge of Infamy: A Petition to the United Nations on the Treatment of the Mexican Immigrant. New York: American Committee for Protection of Foreign Born, 1959. Original staple bound cream wrappers with black text. 48 pages. Measures 5" x 7.5". On April 17, 1959, a petition on the treatment of Mexican immigrants in the United States was presented to the United Nations. The petition discussed only the treatments that are in clear violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which were adopted by the U.N. in 1948. The petition brings forth the topics of inhumane living standards, discrimination, segregation, raids and arrests, and repeated deportation drives. The petition demands that "the social, economic, and political rights of all Americans of Mexican birth or descent be recognized and respected." Another part of the petition calls for justice for "braceros", the undocumented immigrants used for cheap farm labor and mistreated due to lack of laws and rights. Also highlighted are passages detailing "Economic contributions", "North Americans of Mexican Descent". Minor wear and tanning to front cover, overall very good condition.Item #23011
