The text consists of short reading lessons, illustrated dialogues, and simple narrative sentences, including “Ya An c’ola p jay” and “Rute’ nuc’amta ya.” The woodcut-style illustrations show scenes of Indigenous daily life, domestic work, community interaction, and schooling, using visual familiarity to support literacy while also preserving a printed record of local cultural representation.

The primer belongs to a complicated history of Indigenous-language preservation in Guatemala, where educational access, missionary linguistics, and Mayan language standardization intersected during the mid-twentieth century.
