Plot follows Cille and her light-skinned brothers, who are described as "the color that looks not-quite white next to a white man, and not-quite colored next to a colored man. It was a non-color in a place where you had to be something". Young Cille struggles for balance and identity in a world where race and class define people for life, and where her brothers destroy themselves beating against the bars of the cage of a divided culture. Feibleman was fellow writer Lillian Hellman's long-time lover and friend. He won a Guggenheim Award for creative writing and was known for his work about New Orleans and Interracial relationships. Cover features a young man embracing a woman through an old New Orleans French-style window. Cover is vintage and vibrant. Textblock is tight. Overall, in very good condition.Item #20317
