Periodical

[LGBTQ Periodical] We Are Here. San Francisco: Gay Youth Community Coalition. Newspaper. 16pp and 8pp double-folded tabloid with services, articles, contacts, ads, and resources for LGBTQ youth as well as HIV/AIDS. Two issues. No date or issue number. Published in the late 1980s-1990s. The smaller issue has a lengthy two page spread on coming out, how it can benefit other queer people but be dangerous and risky. It talks on the views of society, friends, and family, while the inside is riddled with resources for struggling LGBTQ youth. The larger newspaper also includes resources such as housing, books, addiction centers, counseling, social clubs, and LGBTQ friendly bars, coffee shops, restaurants, and more. There are a couple articles discussing the statistics of queer youth suicide and how to seek support or help those in need. Advertisements for books, hotlines, classes, and more within. Another article titled "Toward Political Autonomy for Lesbian and Gay Youth" by John Fish discusses the crisis of depriving young people from exploring their identity and disallowing their rights. He goes on to talk about Los Angeles, Massachusetts, New York City, their curfew laws, and societal rules. Another article discusses the stress of being closeted in the workplace. This small, yet informative newspaper offers a glimpse into the socio-political struggle of young LGBTQ people during the AIDs crisis. Some mild toning but overall very good condition.
