Early LGBTQ Lesbian Play: The Killing of Sister George. 1964 Playbill. Softcover. It was and base for the 1968 Lesbian Film The Killing of Sister George. "Sister George" is a fictional character in a radio series, She is played by a lezbian named June who is a gin-guzzling, cigar-chomping,masculine woman. June lives with Alice McNaught, a younger woman. In the play when George discovers that her character is scheduled to be killed off the radio show, she becomes increasingly impossible to work and live with. The play implies that George and Alice are lesbians and Alice may be having an affair with another woman too. All 3 characters are portrayed on the the cover of the playbill. In 1968, the play was adapted into a feature film which was made the lesbian elements even more explicit, but even the play was one of the first plays to depict a lesbian relationships. In very good condition.
