Pulp Edition of Alien Land, Story of Biracial Man in the Jim Crow South, 1950

Book

Savoy, Willard. Alien Land. New York: Signet Books 1950. Contains 192 pages. Classic pulp cover art of a young Black woman wearing a canary-yellow dress inside a sheriff's office. Behind her stands two white men. Text above title reads, "Between two worlds--an unforgettable novel of love and fear..." Alien Land follows a white-passing Black man as he experiences racism from both sides and navigates the Jim Crow South. At the end of the novel, he reconciles with his mixed heritage and finds peace in an interracial marriage. The book received great acclaim; it is a powerful, nuanced account of race in America. Book sustains stress crease from when it was read. Some rubbing to spine panel. Consistent toning throughout. Gutter is beginning to crack, but still holding well. Otherwise very good condition.
