This 1948 pamphlet commemorates the Palmach, the elite unit within the underground army of the Jewish community during the period of the British Mandate for Palestine. Written in Hebrew. 54 pages. 6" x 4.5". The Palmach was a specialized and adaptive fighting force, at times fighting with the British, against the British during the latter days of Mandatory Palestine, against Arab groups, and even against Israeli extremist groups. The Palmach existed from 1941-48, at which point it was folded into the Israel Defense Forces upon the establishment of the state of Israel. Its skilled fighters, who were trained in conventional warfare, guerilla operations, and intelligence, would be very influential in the IDF in the coming decades and contribute to the nascent Israeli state's strong military capabilities. Foxing and toning to wrappers, insides generally clean and text legible. Very good condition overall.
