University diploma for a young German girl studying medicine. 1919. Measures 8.5 x 14 inches. 4 pages with 2 page inserts. Certificate reads in part, "The leaving certificate of Miss Charlotte Glass from Berlin is hereby attested that after being enrolled in the matriculation of the university from easter to today, she devoted herself to the stage of medicine and, according to her certificates, attended the lectures and exercises listed below and duly registered." The certificate is signed by the director of the program. The First World War had been an opportunity for female doctors to prove their skill manning hospital and medical research units while their male colleagues signed up for active service. Light foxing does not affect text. Overall very good condition.Item #18297
