During her career, she set world records for 60 metres, 100 yards, 200 metres, 220 yards and 440 yards. Australian sprinter, who starred at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, At 18, she won three gold medals in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and the 4 x 100-meter relay. She set an Olympic record of 11.4 seconds in the 100m heat and equaled the Olympic and world records in the 200m at 23.4 seconds.
