Original elaborate etching of the King of Persia Iran and his Court printed in 1682. On a verge type hand laid watermarked paper. Plate title: 'Persische historie.' (Persian history.) This scarce etching originates from: 'Curieuse aenmerckingen der bysonderste Oost en West-Indische verwonderens-waerdige dingen; ...' by S. de Vries, published in Utrecht, Holland by J. Ribbius, 1682. This elaborate etching depicts a powerful Persian King listening to a man pleading his case in court in a grande palace. Behind the king is an expressive Royal Court and guards with spears. A dog and two Persian dressed children look at the scene from the corner. Beautifully detailed image includes discrete numbers within the picture that correspond to a description in old Dutch at the top of the page. ": 1. King of Persia. 2. First emperial servant. 3.
