A foundational Mexican domestic-science cookbook authored by Yucatecan culinary instructor Concepción Hernández F. de Rodríguez, whose portrait appears in Tomo I with a dedication “fruto de varios años de experiencia a todas las amas de casa con el noble propósito de resolver uno de los más importantes problemas del hogar.” Across both volumes, Hernández constructs a gendered vision of early-20th-century Mexican home economics, writing directly to women, particularly to amas de casa, in a period when domestic instruction, culinary training, and recipe publication formed crucial avenues of social mobility and cultural authorship for Mexican women.

Tomo I presents an extensive culinary curriculum: “El Servicio de la Mesa,” “Platos Regionales,” “Salsas,” “Pescados,” “Aves,” “Huevos,” “Pastas y Arroces,” “Tamales,” “Postres,” “Repostería,” “Dulces y Diversos,” and more, with a full “Tabla de Pesas y Medidas” and instructional essays on table service, economy, and household management. Tomo II, printed separately but designed as the continuation of Tomo I, extends and deepens these culinary lessons. Hernández again foregrounds the role of the Mexican woman as keeper of nutritional knowledge and culinary culture. The two volumes together form an invaluable culinary archive representing women’s authorship, regional identity, domestic knowledge systems, and the social history of Mexican foodways during the interwar period. Light wear to bindings; Tomo I rebound in black cloth with marbled endpapers; Tomo II rebound in red cloth. Pages uniformly toned with scattered edge wear; several pages in Tomo I show small losses at corners, not affecting text. Occasional faint staining consistent with kitchen use. Binding of both volumes sound. Overall good condition. A scarce two-volume Mexican cookbook set documenting women’s domestic authorship in Yucatán and Mexico City.
