Black lesbian author, Audre Lorde: The New York Head Shop and Museum

Book

[LGBTQ], [African American Poetry] Lorde, Audre. The New York Head Shop and Museum. Detroit: Broadside Press, 1974. First edition, second printing. Octavo. 56 pages total. Black and white paperback with bold red titling. The New York Head Shop and Museum paints a portrait of New York in the 1970's as its being neglected, whilst marginalized groups assert their presence by taking to the streets. The poems featured explore the depths of Black motherhood, love, "the probings of Woman", and more. In a poem simply titled, "Love Poem", Lorde metaphorically illustrates tender moments with another woman through the use of nature. These works are notable for their demonstrations of protest and resistance. Even so, they called for social and racial justice. These are the key themes that would become integral to Lorde’s legacy as "a central figure of several equal rights movements— from second-wave feminism to LGBTQ equality". Clean and bright pages, this poetry book is in very good condition.
