African American 1960-1970s Mug Shot Archive

Photo Archive

[African American] [Mug Shots] Photo archive of 6 African American mug shots from 1960s & 1970s-era Chicago and Miami. 6 Silver gelatin photographs, each measure 4" x 5." total of 14 images. All have front shots and profile shots of the 6 subject, but 2 also have a distance shot to display height, resulting in 14 total images. All images are in black and white except for one from 1974, which is in full color. Each has the subject's name handwritten on verso; some have addresses, aliases, and physical descriptors as well. In one photo, a Black woman based in Miami appears downtrodden, her eyes cast to the side. In another, a man arrested in 1970 dresses in a leather jacket, his hair styled like Elvis. The color photograph depicts a handsome young man wearing a purple getup and smirking at the camera. Another mug shot shows a young woman wearing a bright white cone-shaped wig with a ribbon in it; she stars at the camera and appears exhausted, her mouth agape. This archive is an interesting time capsule and is overall in very good condition.
