Following pages follow the same simple formula, beginning with lesson prompts and then a clear written explanation of the arithmetic operation in plain English, followed by sample exercises using numbers to demonstrate the operation. These are all written in a very neat and legible early 19th century hand. The last few sheets seem to be a different hand and titled "A few receipts of a Family"; "For a Surgery- A child may take half as much .." this part include the name and address of Matthew Sheppard, notes Matthew is in Albany and mostly offers some early medical recipes for simple remedies: "A good salve for a burn..,", "For children who are...feverish give one to three grams of Calomel.", For a child, one, two or three grains of white vitriol and repeat at every half hour until it causes sickness ". " For a violent Burn on ..I should advise you always to send for a medical Nurse Mrs .H Sheppard Pan Terrace Road" Boards of the journal has worn marbling. Journal corners and spine worn. Handwritten text and pages in very good condition, but for the last page that is missing bottom 2 inches. Overall an interesting early example.
