Pulp

Endore, Guy. The Werewolf of Paris. New York, 1951. Avon Books. 6.6" x 4.25." Front wrapper depicts classic pulp image of a werewolf hunching over a blonde woman. First Avon printing with fabulous cover art by William Randolph. The back includes rave reviews from newspapers as well as a brief summary, bordered with human and animal footprints. 1951 pulp reprint of the 1933 smash hit, nicknamed by experts "the Dracula of werewolves." Set against the backdrop of the Franco-Prussian war, this tale of gothic horror and suspense is considered a trailblazer in classic monster fiction. Endore held many leftist beliefs and used the werewolf narrative as a vehicle for his commentary on capitalism and nineteenth-century France. He argues that senseless violence inflicted between human beings is no better than the bloodthirst of werewolves. The novel was the basis of the 1961 horror film The Curse of the Werewolf. Very good condition with a bright cover.
